We will have a conference by Mr. Alain Werner on holding perpetrators of war crimes accountable: utopia or reality?
Following Mr. Werner's presentation, Mr. Jean-Paul Vulliéty will discuss the Escalade and the cortège de l’Escalade.
Mr. Alain Werner, Founder and Director of Civitas Maxima, is a lawyer registered with the Geneva Bar and holds an LL.M from Columbia University. He has worked for the Office of the Prosecutor of the Special Court for Sierra Leone in several trials including the trial in The Hague of the former President of Liberia, Charles Taylor.
Mr. Werner appeared at the trial of Kaing Guek Eav or Duch before the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia in Phnom Penh where he acted as a lawyer for the civil parties (victims of the crimes of the Khmer Rouge). Mr. Werner also represents victims in the case against former President of Chad, Hissène Habré, in front of the Extraordinary African Chambers in Dakar, Senegal. Additionally, he represents Liberian plaintiffs in the criminal case for war crimes in Switzerland against Alieu Kosiah.
Mr. Jean-Paul Vulliéty is a full professor of law of obligations and international contracts at the University of Geneva. He is Director of the Master Program in International Commodity Trading and Shipping and a Senior Partner at Lalive, which is active in international commercial arbitration and general corporate and commercial advice.
Mr. Vulliéty is President of the Compagnie de 1602 as well as President of the Commission for Civil and Administrative Law of the Geneva Bar and President of the Arab-Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
